Leia maisMindfulness technique teaches us to be aware of what is happening in our lives as well as in our surroundings. It is the art of gaining deep awareness of what is happening right here, right now. The focus lies on observing what is occurring within us and around us in this moment, becoming conscious of all thoughts and feelings that may drain our energy from moment to moment.
It provides us with an insight through which we can see a clear picture of our thoughts and most of our internal states, enabling us to bear witness to both favorable and unfavorable events. While it does not eliminate life's pressures, it can assist us in responding to them in a calmer and more beneficial manner that benefits our mind, spirit, and body. Most importantly, it allows us to respond positively to things of which we become aware. The key is to observe without judgment or analysis.
The methodology of mindfulness, as we know it today, evolved from the integration of Eastern and Western traditions. Drawing much of its foundational principles from Buddhism, it also carries the contributions of Western transcendentalists such as Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson. In 1979, Jon Kabat-Zinn, who introduced the 'Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction' program at the University of Massachusetts, merged and carefully separated the distinctions of Westernized meditation from all mystical associations.
Since then, his techniques have been continuously used for a wide range of purposes in various environments. However, it's only in recent years that the 'Mindfulness' movement has truly gained traction.
The Benefits of Mindfulness
Regardless of the numerous advantages associated with any form of meditation, it's often stated that individuals who practice Mindfulness are happier and healthier than others, reportedly experiencing a significantly prolonged lifespan. There are numerous studies illustrating that Mindfulness meditation dramatically reduces and even reverses various types of illnesses.
There have been over a thousand publications documenting medical and psychological research on Mindfulness, showcasing its validity and application.
Modern Mindfulness practice is more about a way of being than a specific meditation technique. It is utilized as a therapy for a wide range of conditions, both mental and physical, and as a general means of enhancing life quality. Neuroscience has proven that, for instance, when exercising in a gym and being mindful of the movements performed - meaning precisely feeling the muscle being engaged - the performance improves by about 30%.
Being aware means being conscious of self, of the body, and of the surroundings as they exist in this moment. Eastern religions are mindful of the significance of the present, but the rational and scientific Western way of thinking often finds it challenging to embrace this idea. Mindfulness precisely allows the Western skeptic to merge Western science with the benefits of Eastern self-awareness.
Exploring Jon Kabat-Zinn's Seven Fundamental Attitudes of Mindfulness Practice
Jon Kabat-Zinn describes seven attitudes that one should develop to succeed in mindfulness:
The mindfulness we study consists of several components: meditation, breathing techniques, NLP techniques, and physical movements.
At Energy House, an accredited institute for Mindfulness education affiliated with the In-Me association (https://in-me.world/), we're commencing English-language education from February 3rd, 2024.
The education program comprises seven sessions, held every Saturday starting at 5 pm CET, with a total duration of 30 hours. Mindfulness Intensive by In-Me is an education program that guides you back to yourself by becoming aware of what is happening, how you react to it, and its consequences.
In line with this, I'll be hosting a free webinar in English on January 20th, 2024 https://energyhouse.lpages.co/mindfulness-world-congress
